I work as an EMT and volunteer as a firefighter in New Jersey, which means odd hours and typically being awake in the middle of the night. This particular call I'm responding to is a rollover at 1230am, I got cancelled though which is nice because I got to go back to bed sooner than expected. I'll just get this out of the way now, I hate the winter and I hate the snow. It's the worst
Waking up at 530am. I'm used to it by now, my other job starts at 4am though which is an awful hour to be awake. I was a little more tired than normal waking up though because of the accident I responded to.
Getting coffee at Wawa. If you've never been to a Wawa I feel sorry for you. It's a fantastic regional convenience store/gas station in eastern PA, central/south Jersey and Delaware. They have the best Mac N Cheese when your drunk at 3am.
Sitting at this traffic light sucks, it can delay my 7 minute commute by as much as 5 minutes depending on the traffic flow.
Doing an ambulance check at work. This is important because we need to make sure a lot of necessary equipment is stocked and ready to go at a moment's notice.
My breakfast consisted of coffee, OJ, eggs, potatoes and pork roll at the Diner. I got interrupted once for a call while eating, which is a risk we take working EMS.
Remember that picture you saw earlier with the back of the ambulance, well this is the mess after a cardiac arrest. It was our 4th call of the day. Where I work isn't to busy so 4 calls was a lot.
Post call charting & monster. Energy drinks and coffee are a staple of EMS as we typically work long shifts with little to no sleep. For anyone that works in public service, you'll understand that the job is 10% action and 90% paperwork. As I said earlier, my job isn't to busy which allows for a lot of down time (naps & Netflix) which is great and often makes people jealous. What they don't understand is that it can go from 0-100 real quick. I can go from watching an episode of Its Always Sunny one minute to responding to a house fire the next. I like what I do, but the pay isn't all that great. I'd like to eventually get a job as a police officer.
Lurking and eating soup. I've been on imgur for around 5 years now but rarely make an contribution to the site.
