Happened to me tonight. I had just dropped a co worker off and pulled back onto a busy street. when I heard the pop. Not sure what it was I continued until I could get to a safe place to pull off. At first I thought it was just a chunk of ice caught in the wheel well. Blew the rear passenger tire, may have wrecked the rim driving on it for a bit. I'll find out for sure tomorrow when I go the garage.
Now here comes the story. I'm an older lady and rather than wait for a tow truck (2.5 to 3 hour wait for CAA) I decided to change it myself. It's been over 30 years since I had to change a tire but how difficult can it be? I've only owned my dodge journey for about 18 months. Fairly new tires. I had to pull out the manual to find where they hid the spare. WTF its under the rear of the car. OK dig out the tools stored under the floor of the trunk. Now i have to put the *(&*^ thing together just to lower the tire within reach. It's on a winch system. I spent 10 minutes just figuring how to get it off the winch after i got it lowered.
Now to jack up the car. WTF this isn't a jack it's a piece of *%&%_ crap.
Weather is crappy. icy rain, parking lot is covered in slushy ice. I've managed to get the the jack in place and the lugs nuts loosened. Jack keeps slipping on the ice. I re position it more securely ( I hope) and try again.
the Wrench!! doesn't fit the jack correctly so I can only do a half turn at a time. finally get it jacked up enough to get the old tire off. Up pulls a big bus. one of those big coach buses for the casino's. The driver shines his lights on my car but doesn't get out. OK I think maybe he;s not allowed to leave the bus for security or liability reasons. Give him a thumbs up and keep working. Got the flat tire off and decide to take a short break. That's when I notice it. The driver of the bus has his phone out the window and is filming my struggle. So I wander over and ask him politely to stop filming. I understand he can't leave his bus but hay. If you can't help don't sit there and laugh at me. ** I've slipped on the ice a couple of times landing on my ass once. Throw the tire iron when it kept slipping off the jack and generally just threw a tantrum. He smiles and just keeps filming. Ok. Jackass keep filming. Back to my car.
Finally get the spare on. Now the jack decides to be stubborn and won't release. So I give it a nudge with my boot. (it was a pretty hard nudge).
Just as i'm throwing everything back into the car the flat tire decides to land on my already sore toe.
Soaked, covered in grease, and sore foot but I did it. changed my own tire. I'm proud and miserable at the same time.
tdlr: Had to change a flat in crappy weather. Had fun! NOT. Made an ass out of myself and caught someone filming my struggle.
Sorry about my grammer. too tired and sore to care.
